Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of the most common questions we're asked:

Q:  How do you stucco over a new wall?
A:  We use layers of weep screed, paper, lath, two coats of brown coat, and two coats of finish coat, with color added if wanted.

Q:  In conventional stucco, what are the ingredients in the brown coat?
A:  The brown coat contains fiberglass fibers, water, bonding agent, common sand, masons, and portland cement.

Q:  In conventional stucco, what are the ingredients in the finish coat?
A:  The finish coat contains water, bonding agent, silica sand, and white portland.

Q:  How is color added to the stucco?
A:  We add a pigment color to the finish coat mixture.  It is not premixed cement.

Q:  Why is stucco is better than vinyl siding?
A:  Stucco lasts longer.  It stands up to weather better, insulates your home better, and reduces sound.

Q:  Why shouldn't stucco be painted?
A:  Stucco needs to breathe.  When the ground gets wet from rain, the blocks of the foundation absorb moisture.  This moisture comes up from the foundation and releases through the stucco.  Also, if the stucco is painted, it will have to be sandblasted if you ever want to re-stucco your home.
